YOGA ETIQUETTE

Feel free to bring your own eye pillow and mat,
or let the studio provide everything you need

As you enter the studio, take a moment to stop and take a breath. Consider your intention for the upcoming class.

  • If you don't have your own, select a mat and props, find a space where you feel comfortable and sit and relax until class starts.

  • Try not to eat a large or heavy meal for about 2 hours prior to class - you will be uncomfortable.

  • Plan to arrive 10 - 15 minutes before the class start time so you have time to sign in, pay for your class and get comfortable.

  • Wear comfortable clothing that you can move in. Be advised that certain bending positions may allow a loose or untucked t-shirt to expose parts that are better off remaining covered!  A close fitting top or tucked in T-shirt will allow you (and others) to focus on the asanas.

  • Cell phones are not permitted in the studio. Please turn them off  (or mute)

  • Many people are sensitive to perfumes, please don't wear perfumes to class.

  • Advise your teacher if it is your first class and of any health issues, injuries or concerns you may have.

  • Ask the teacher for help if you need it.

Please contact the yoga studio or your teacher if you have any questions.
If you have any suggestions, please share them.

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH:
From Terry Ariano who will be teaching our Community Yoga Class Sunday, July 18th,  1-2pm.

“When we enhance our sensitivity toward other’s suffering through deliberately opening ourselves up to it, it is believed that we can gradually extend our compassion to the point where the individual feels so moved by even the subtlest suffering of others that they come to have an overwhelming sense of responsibility toward those others.  This causes the one who is compassionate to dedicate themselves entirely to helping others overcome both their suffering and the causes of their suffering.  …this ultimate level of attainment is called nying je chenmo, literally ‘great compassion’.”
His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Did you Know?...............In addition to conventional cancer treatment methods, such as chemotherapy and radiation, many oncologists recommend integrative therapies to cancer patients. These complementary therapies include oncology massage, acupuncture, and yoga. Yoga, in particular, has been proven effective in improving comfort levels and emotional well being in patients and families of those undergoing mesothelioma treatments. An international study involving 50 cancer patients undergoing radiation treatment showed an increase in appetite, an improvement in digestive function, and a restored feeling of calm and tranquility when simple yoga poses were practiced. While more controlled studies are required to truly demonstrate the benefits of yoga for cancer patients, those who practice yoga believe that simple yoga poses, combined with stretching, meditation, and savasana can have an extremely positive impact on those experiencing side effects from conventional cancer treatments.
