Hello there! This is the first of the blogs on our website. I hope that having this blog will help us get to know each other better and help us to have conversations about healthy living and yoga. Please feel free to post any comments or questions. Thank you. The theme for this month was chosen by Bonnie: the Yamas. This is great for our first blog post since the yamas are the first limb of the 8 limbs of classical yoga and are where we start our practice by becoming aware of what is necessary in relationships with one another. There are 5 of them: 1. Ahimsa, the most important one, means Non-harming 2. Satya means Truth 3. Asteya means Non-stealing 4. Bramacharya means Self-restraint 5. Aparagraha means Non-hoarding When we talk about the Yamas we also are considering how we apply these to ourselves, not just to others. After all, we are the other half of relationships....that's a large portion! Let's start with the first one, Ahimsa, Non-harming. A couple of questions to ask yourself: Where in my life am I not practicing Ahimsa for myself? What do I allow into my life that causes harm to me? As I look at these questions I'm realizing that I need to get up early tomorrow morning and in the spirit of non-harming I'll say goodnight now.....will check back for some responses tomorrow~ Namaste~Cathy |
